I agree that smart people are required to make new technology.
But, once new technology is created, that technology unavoidably reshapes how people organize themselves.
Trains, having been created, reshaped the American cityscape. Didn’t matter if you loved or hated them. Cars, radio, planes, same thing. Now we have train depots and railways and large highways and airports, and our lives are organized by those principles.
Specific AIs, having been created, now reshape the associations of people into organizational forms that benefit the continued use of AI.
So of course our opinions “matter”, but that doesn’t change the effects that AI’s scale will have on how we associate with each other.
